About
Grant money comes withstrings attached.
Grantwell exists because the conditions attached to grant funding are scattered across PDFs, email threads and the memory of whoever wrote the application — and none of those survive a staff change or an audit.
Why we built it
The compliance work is real. The tooling was not.
Nonprofit teams that run on grants carry an unusual burden: the money arrives with a legal document attached, and that document quietly creates dozens of dated obligations — progress reports, financial reports, audit thresholds, prior-approval rules, drawdown windows.
Miss one, and the consequences are not abstract. A late report delays a payment. An overspent line becomes an audit finding. A missed approval turns an eligible cost into an ineligible one. And the organisations least able to absorb a clawback are usually the ones with the least administrative capacity to prevent it.
The existing options were a spreadsheet, a shared drive, or enterprise grant-management software priced for institutions with a grants department — not a grants person. Grantwell is the tool for the second kind of organisation: it reads the award letter, extracts what it obliges you to do, and holds every date with the receipt still attached.
Principles
How we build it.
Always show the source
Every obligation Grantwell extracts carries the page it came from. Software that summarises a legal agreement without letting you check it is asking for trust it has not earned — so we make the receipt part of the record.
A deadline nobody owns is not tracked
A date in a document is not a system. Obligations get an owner, a reminder and a place in a calendar your team already looks at — otherwise you have built a nicer filing cabinet, not compliance.
The trial shows everything
We do not gate features during the trial. You should be able to run a real award letter through the real product and judge it on what it actually does, before any card is involved.
Your data leaves as easily as it arrives
CSV export across the product, documents that stay attached to their grants, and cancellation you can do yourself. Lock-in is not a retention strategy we are interested in.
